The Unexpected Necessities of a Road Trip

If you’ve never taken a road trip, I pity you. There’s nothing quite like being free to roam around the US in your car, cycle, or motorhome rental. While the movies romanticize it big time, there can be a few not-so-glamorous aspects to being on the road, like running out of gas, forgetting your phone charger or sitting elbow to elbow with Aunt Lisa–but I made a list of the things which you should have on deck for a coastal roadtrip or even a jaunt to Canada.

roadtrip tips

Motorhome, Car, Cycle and Truck must haves:

Dramamine and/or Ibuprofen. When you’re on the road, especially on those long drives to the next city, things can get a little…irritated. Keeping pain reliever with you should be a top priority for those achey knees and migraines. If anyone is prone to car sickness, make sure to keep some dramamine or other motion sickness pills with you.

Napkins or paper towels. Accidents happen. It’s best to at least have a stack of napkins tucked away in your glove box, or bring a roll of paper towels for any fast food spills that are bound to happen.

Trash bags. For all those receipts, waterbottles, wrappers and other odds and ends that end up littering the vehicle. Keep your sanity, bring a trash bag.

Hand sanitizer. Did you know there are more germs on a gas pump than there are in a toilet? That’s nasty. Bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you on a road trip, better yet, keep a small bottle in your car.

Cash. You’d be surprised at how many cash-only places exist still, keeping at least a few singles on you is a good idea whilst traveling.

Bottle Opener. Word of caution: this is not for the roadtrip itself! Keep a bottle opener around if you’re planning on having a bottle of wine at your hotel, by the beach or whilst camping. Never drink and drive! With that being said, have a great time on your journey my friend! Be safe.
