How to stay entertained on the long road to wherever

The life of a traveller is not always as full of adventure and entertainment as it is shown to be. Sometimes travel involves long roads, long rides and long flights that are full of nothing to do but sit there and think about… Nothing. It is in those times that the question of “what the hell am I supposed to do I am so bored” comes up. It is also during these times that you can get yourself some precious downtime and get either some low-cost dopamine going or even be productive. So, in order to help you find random things to do on a flight, on a train, in a car, or just about anywhere where you have nothing to do, here is a quick list of things to do when there is nothing else to do. Not everything might fit your taste, but some things will, and those things are the ones you need in your life.

Do a bit of gaming

Time passes faster when you are being entertained, at least so has found every single person that has ever lived. So, if you want time to pass faster and your travel turns into fast travel, you could always do a little bit of gaming. It is possible for you to do this both offline and online, but that depends on your device and on the type of gaming that you want to do. IF you are a fan of single-player games, then you should probably get a hold of a laptop that can handle the load if single-player gaming. If you are, on the other hand, a fan of online gaming, then you might need to get an internet connection.

Of course, being a vagabond, we understand that it is not always possible to lug around an entire laptop, so mobile gaming might be the best fit for you. There are many types of online gaming options available, such as Casumo casino slots, or Hearthstone, or other mobile games that were developed for long term entertainment.

Do a bit of research

If you are travelling somewhere that you have never been to, it might be a wise idea to do some research on the destination. This is pretty easy to do, as long as you know where to look. There are usually books available describing what some of the best places to visit are, what not to do when you get on location, and other relevant information. But, if you are looking for something more in-depth, you should definitely try checking out the information available online. Lonely Planet has a lot of interesting and detailed resources on many places around the world, that can lead you to learn how to enjoy the place as the locals do and help you find hidden spots that are not widely available to tourists. Furthermore, you have other people travelling with you. Ask around, and you might get lucky enough to get a few notes from them about what the best places to visit and hang out at are.

Do a bit of work

If you have a little bit of time, maybe you could get a little bit of work done. Whether you run a blog, a social media account, or something else that is related, you could do some work on creating content for them. Alternatively, if you are looking to make an extra buck and have an account for a freelancing position somewhere online, you could always just do a bit o freelance work. A few hours to spare means a few extra bucks in your hand if you know what you are doing. Translation work always abounds and there are many resources online that allow freelancers to get in touch with businesses that need the service, it is also the easiest to do if you know the languages, so maybe look into that!

Do a bit of socializing

We mentioned this already, but let’s talk a bit more about it. Beyond just doing a bit of research on where you are going, socializing has many benefits. Sometimes, travel can feel a little lonely, and getting to talk to a stranger can alleviate that feeling by a whole lot. If you do it enough, you might even end up making a new friend, and who doesn’t like to have an extra friend in whatever new country they travel to. A drinking buddy, a guide or just someone to hang out with every once in a while, friends made on trains are some of the most valuable ones that a traveller can have.
