When we dream of the perfect day at the beach, our minds often wander to thoughts of bronzed beaches and azure oceans, with nothing but the ocean breeze and the occasional bird call reaching our ears. But these daydreams are often destroyed by the reality of loud, dirty, tourist-packed beaches that are regularly recommended.

No need to worry, as car rental company, Autoclick, have provided seven of the best hidden hideaways across Europe to escape to on your next holiday, when the hustle and bustle gets too much.

Cala de Sant Francesc, Spain

Plaja-Sant-Pol

A scenic 1-2 hour drive from Barcelona welcomes you to this stunning beach in Calella de Palafrugell, the perfect getaway from the likes of Barceloneta beach. Although there are a few tourists found here, they tend to be different and a little less boisterous to the many that are found by the city.

There are a few beaches along this stretch of land, however Cala de Sant Francesc is the best choice families, with shallower waters and rock pools. If you’re looking for the ideal diving destination, you’ll enjoy spending some time in the crystal clear water here, too.

Cala Llombards, Mallorca

If you prefer to fit in some snorkelling or walking during your day at the beach, visit Cala Llombards along the south-east coast of Mallorca. A small yet stunningly beautiful beach situated between two tree-lined rocky cliffs, visitors can enjoy a simple spot of sunbathing, snorkelling in the shallow waters, or even a walk along the cliffs, to look back down to the beach and out towards the vast ocean.

Plage de Parlementia, Guéthary, France

One of four beaches found in Guéthary, Parlementia offers plenty of space to yourself and your family or group of friends. Popular amongst Parisians, there tends to be a lot less tourists in these parts, compared to the popular Riviera.

Sabaudia beach, Italy

Located a couple of hours drive outside Rome, Sabaudia offers the perfect hideaway from city life. Unlike other beaches close to Rome, this beautiful spot is a little trickier to get to (requiring a car or facing a multiple changes when using public transport), which could explain the seclusion.

Although a lot of Sabaudia beach is taken up by private sections, you will find some public areas as well,  if you’d prefer not to pay.

Praia dos Caneiros, Algarve, Portugal

Praia-dos-Caneiros2

If you’re looking for a quiet beach but with plenty to do, jump straight into a car from the Faro airport and head on a 30 minute drive to Praia dos Caneiros. From eating and drinking to swimming and kayaking, sunbathing and walking to renting a pedalo, there’s all kinds of things to do. Massages are also available on the beach, so if you’re looking for that much needed relaxation whilst the kids enjoy some watersports, this is the perfect spot for you.

Praia do Guincho, Cascais

If you’re staying in or near Lisbon, take a drive through Cascais. Rather than stopping at one of the town’s crowded beaches, pass through the town and head to Serra de Sintra National Park. Here you will find Praia do Guincho, a breezy but beautiful spot that’s perfect for wind and kite surfing.

Walking fans can take a short walk along the beach to look towards Cape Roca, where a number of scenes from the sixth James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, were filmed.

Agiokampos Beach, Greece

One of the quaintest and most peaceful parts of Evia, Agiokampos and its beach are just 2-3 hours away in the car from Athens. With gorgeous blue waters sat next to the white pebbly beach, it’s a beautiful location to spend a few nights away, if not more.

There are tennis and basketball courts available on the beach, for the whole family to enjoy, and at some points throughout the year, concerts are held there, too.
