Driftwood Beach gets its name from the scattered driftwood and trees that lie all over the sand. The creation of the beach was actually a mistake as the northern portion of the island eroded away over many years, resulting in the Driftwood Beach of today.

Driftwood Beach is a favorite destination of the locals for photography, picnicking, and just taking an evening stroll along the shore. In fact, Driftwood Beach is often known as one of America’s Top 10 Most Romantic Beaches due to its quiet environment and stunning views.

Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island is a popular tourist attraction, but there are a few locally populated areas too. This all-season area is wonderful for historical sightseeing, beachcombing, and shopping in the quaint historic towns. Be sure to visit Beach Village, a local shopping promenade that sits right on the Atlantic Ocean.

The island also hosts frequent festivals. These festivals showcase local talent, some of the best seafood in the area, and plenty of live entertainment performances.

Buy Seafood From Mr. Shuck’s Seafood Market

Shuck’s Seafood Market is where many of the locals buy their fresh ocean fare. You can dine in and order off of the delectable menu or truly experience Brunswick as a local by selecting and cooking your own fresh seafood.

The market sells some of the freshest and best-tasting seafood in the area. You can choose from crab, shrimp, oysters, snow crab, and even catfish. Many of the local Brunswick hotels have convenient accommodations with full kitchenettes available to cook your freshly bought seafood choices.

Dine at Indigo Coastal Shanty

First-time visitors might not notice tiny Indigo Coastal Shanty, located in the downtown historic part of Brunswick. Yet, the hidden shanty is often filled with locals looking to fill up on the authentic international-inspired menu.

Both the interior and exterior of the Indigo Shanty are coastal-themed, with bright colors and an overall vacation feel. The menu includes items like crispy plantains, fried green tomatoes, and a Bahamian chicken curry. There are also more traditional menu items available for children or adults with less-experimental food preferences.

Jog or Bike Across the Golden Isles Bridge

Local running enthusiasts enjoy the challenge of the Golden Isles Bridge. This 7,780-foot-long and 486-foot-tall bridge is an icon in the Brunswick area. The bridge connects the city of Brunswick with Jekyll Island, and runners can stop and enjoy the historical parks on each end of the bridge. Each February, there is a city-wide 5K bridge run that promotes awareness of the local Georgia health system.

Brunswick, Georgia, is a beautiful city with plenty of exciting attractions. Plan your upcoming trip and immerse yourself in the local experience of the Brunswick area.
